That night, Margo and Elise stood awkwardly in the middle of the bedroom, until Elise finally cleared her throat. “Um. I’ll take the floor, you can have the bed.”

Margo immediately shook her head. “No, no. Absolutely not. I can take the floor.”

“But, you’re helping me with this as a favor to me, I can’t ask you to—”

“I’m helping you with this because you’re doing the right thing,” Margo broke in. She bit her lip. “Look, honestly, I don’t mind sharing. It’s a big bed, after all.”

Elise’s eyes widened, and Margo hid her smile when she saw the other girl start to blush. “Really? You sure you don’t mind?”

“Not at all.”

Elise nodded and flicked the lights off, and the two of them made their way in the dark to the bed. They slid under the blankets, and Margo carefully ignored the accidental brushes of skin. She lay on her back, staring at the ceiling as Elise lay still beside her. Margo felt tired, but at the same time she felt like her entire body was alight with electricity. Finally, she couldn’t take it anymore, and she rolled over to look at Elise. Her stomach clenched when she saw the other girl was already looking at her.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Margo whispered. “You knew what I thought. That you were just bringing home hook ups every night. Why didn’t you tell me the truth?”

Elise bit her lip, and Margo’s eyes flicked down to follow the movement.

“I didn’t… I don’t know. I didn’t want to make you feel bad for having to live here. Which I know I ended up doing anyways. I’m sorry.”

“It’s all right. You still should have told me. I could have helped.”

“I know.”

Margo could feel something pressing down on the two of them, something hot and heavy that surrounded them, forming a cocoon. She kept herself entirely still as Elise shifted and reached out a hand to lay it on Margo’s cheek. Her thumb stroked over her lips, and Margo let them part, just enough for Elise to feel her breath.

“Margo,” Elise breathed. “Can I—”

“Yes,” Margo said immediately, not caring what the question was. She would let Elise do whatever she wanted.

Elise sucked in a shaky breath, and then she was moving forward. Margo rolled onto her back as the blonde got closer, so that Elise was hovering over her, her arms braced on either side of Margo’s shoulders. Margo could feel the blonde’s bare thigh pressed against the side of hers, and she let her legs fall open. It only took a minute for Elise to move her leg between Margo’s, so that their entire bodies were pressed against each other, each breath drawn felt by the other.

When Elise kissed her, Margo felt like she had breathed fresh air for the first time in a week. She parted her lips without hesitation, and Elise didn’t hesitate to plunge her tongue against Margo’s, her kiss insistent. Margo already knew her lips were going to be swollen after this—whatever this was.
